2012 THE JACK HELGREN MEMORIAL RACE RULES
General Information:

Green Flag - Start of Race.

Red-Flag - Stop immediately and maintain position on track.

Black Flag - Penalty or Disqualification, Go directly to the pits and stop, personnel will determine penalty.

White Flag - One lap remaining.

Checkered Flag - End of Race.

Yellow Flag - Slow down and avoid any obstacles. Proceed single file without passing.

One lap penalty for passing on Yellow Flag
Absolutely no crossing of the track on foot or by machine during runs or race. Track personnel will assist any person or sled across the track during a Yellow Flag lap, this includes towing to pit area.
Pushing, Bumping or Hitting, if deemed intentional, you will be Black Flagged and disqualified.
Starting Procedure: The start of all races will be LeMans style. Machines will be driven to the starting line then turned off and drivers will meet at the designated starting area. When the start signal is given, all racers will run to their machines, Tether up, start machine and commence racing.
Warm-up lap: Machines will be led around the track to get familiar with the layout and conditions. After warm-up lap, all sleds will be lined up in starting location and all drivers will be lined-up in their starting location.
Race Length:

5 Laps: Old Timer's Race (Drivers 50 & Older); 80+ Class (Age of driver & sled must be 80 or+) & Ladies Powder-Puff Class

8 Laps: 1973 and Older Sleds. 1985 and Older Leaf Spring Sleds

10 Laps: 1985 and Older IFS Sleds.

15 Laps: 1996 and Older Sleds.

15 Laps: 2012 and Older Class (0-600 and 601-UP).
NOTE: Officials reserve the right to change the length of the race or track design due to but not limited to track conditions.
If Your Sled Stops Running: You must signal one of our official tow vehicles to get towed in.
If you Protest A Competitors Sled - You must put up $100.00 to the race committee. The protested sled owner will be responsible for head, exhaust, or carburetor tear down of their own sled or forfeit. If the protested sled is found to be illegal; the $100.00 will be refunded. If not, you forfeit your $100.00 to the club sponsoring the race series. Any "Protested" Sled Owner that passes the "tear down" inspection will be reimbursed up to $100.00 (race committee will decide how much) to cover the cost of tear down.
All penalties and/or disqualifications by race officials will be accepted by the participants and will be uncontestable.
A disqualified sled will forfeit entry fee.
The officals shall have the last say. Please do not try to read anything further into the rules.
Officials Rulings:
Snowmobile:

Must be production line model, offered to the public during model year or earlier.

No limited production R&D models.
-
Original style ignition for year and model.
-
No performance kit.
-
Tether switch is mandatory; it must be working before, during, and after the race. Tether must be clipped to clothing or glove. This will be strictly enforced.
Motor Regulations:

Motor must be an available option for the chassis entered in the race.

Original clutch or stock replacement OK (e.g.: comet Duster).

Carburetors are original "style" for make and model, however, re-jetting is permissible. If you have a non diaphragm carburetor, you must be able to prove this was original equipment.

Exhaust must be original or stock replacement (After market "Cans" allowed - No "Pipes").
-
Pistons are original or stock replacement, one bore oversized allowed.

The top 5 finishers subject to a carburetor inspection, compression test, removal of heads, exhaust and carbs, if found to be suspicious.
Snowmobile Operation:

No on track major repairs allowed.
-
Driver should attempt to get snowmobile into infield and wait for tow vehicle. Driver can change belt or plugs in the infield and re-enter race.

Excessive speed or horseplay in the pit area will not be tolerated.

Snowmobile needs to be on a safety stand in pit area or on starting line for warm-ups. All safety stands must have a backboard.
Chassis:
-
Chain case and entire drive system must be original.
-
Skis: Original, stock replacement or newer up-grade OK.
-
Carbide runners are allowed.
-
Spreaders are allowed to 3" per side.
-
Snow flaps must be in place.
Fuel Tanks:

Suspension:
Handlebars:

Original or stock replacement.

Any machines that had cleats from the factory must be riveted on and not bolted, they cannot be sharpened, ends cannot be welded shut and they must be original size & design.

Carbide Studs OK. Ice Picks Allowed, but maximum clearance above track lug 3/8".

You may change gear ratio, clutch springs and weights. No changes to secondary clutch.

Belts may be different, but clutch center to center distance must be maintained.
Driver:
-
Chest protector STRONGLY RECOMMENDED, required in Mod Class.

Agrees to accept all decisions of the race officials unconditionally.

No alcohol or drugs allowed.
-
Must provide own fire extinguisher in pit area.
-
Must be 18 years of age or older. (A picture ID with date of birth on it will be required at race registration).
Seat:
-
No late model seats, no springs or suspension seats, SEAT MUST BE STOCK APPEARING. Absolutely no risers, no extra foam (except MOD Class)
A HELMET with SHIELD OR GOGGLES IS MANDATORY, NO EXCEPTIONS. EYE PROTECTION INFRACTIONS WILL RESULT IN A BLACK FLAG. NO SAFETY GLASSES!
What you CANNOT DO: NO Engine / Chassis MODS & NO PIPES.
What you CAN DO: (performance enhancing): STUDS, PICKS & SET-UP.

Check in and registration begins at 7:30 am. Please try to pro-register, this will save you money & us valuable race time and lots of race day hassle, as well as guarantee you a race spot. Please be checked in and ready by 10:00 am. $5.00 late charge for registration after 10:00 am RACE DAY. (LEMANS ONLY)
